ITR filing: Deadline for assessment year 2019-20 extended to November 30



The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Wednesday further extended the last date for filing ITR for AY 2019-20 (FY 2018-19). The date has been extended from 30 September to 30 November, 2020. The I-T department, in a statement, said that the decision was taken after further consideration of genuine difficulties being faced by the taxpayers due to the Covid-19 situation.

Those looking to file belated or revised ITRs for income generated between April 2018 and March 2019 can now do so till 30 November.

The deadline for filing ITR for assessment year 2020-21, which is financial year 2019-20, is November 30.

In a tweet from its official handle, Income Tax department today said, “On further consideration of genuine difficulties being faced by taxpayers due to the Covid-19 situation, CBDT further extends the due date for furnishing of belated & revised ITRs for Assessment Year 2019-20 from 30th September, 2020 to 30th November, 2020.Order u/s 119(2a) issued."

The last date for filing tax returns for AY 2019-20 was extended for the fourth time in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was first revised till 30 June, then 31 July, and later till 30 September.
